Frequently Asked Questions

How do you get to Anna's?

Directions to Anna's

Do you rent partial weeks?

-All our cottages rent Saturday to Saturday. We do consider a minimum of 3 nights during the low season.

What is the cancellation policy?

-If it possible for us to rent out your stay to another party then we will refund your money minus a $100 processing fee.

-If you decide to change your booking to another cottage or week within 10 days of making your original booking you can do so, however you will be charged a $25 processing fee. After this point we will view it as a cancellation.

Is a security deposit taken?

-Yes. All places require a $200 cash deposit (except for the Pavillion and Hyewood House which is $300) that is taken on arrival in case of damages, and/or if the place is not returned to its original clean condition.
We expect that the house be broom swept, bed linen removed and brought to the Hospitality Suite, and that all furniture be brought back to their original places. Trash and recycling should be put in the outside bins, we will take care of sanitizing the house.
The deposit will be returned within a week of departure.

Is there a formal check in?

-No there is not. More likely than not someone will be on the property to greet you, give you a tour of Anna's and answer any questions.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

- Check-in is at 4 P.M. onwards and check-out is at 10 A.M. If you would like to check in earlier call us that day, we may be able to accommodate your request. Also If you're planning on checking out earlier, please let us know so that we can get a head start on the cleaning.

Do you observe quiet hours?

-Yes, we observe quiet hours from 9 P.M. to 9 A.M. so everyone can relax and appreciate the property peacefully. Please be respectful of other guests by keeping the noise down during this time.

Is there anything we need to do before checking out of the property?

-Yes, we expect the houses to be in the same condition you found them in; the floors need to be broom swept, and all used towels and linen in the provided canvas laundry bag and brought to the Hospitality Suite. Trash and recycling should be put in the outside bins, we will take care of sanitizing the house.

Do you allow pets?

We allow dogs if they are well behaved, but no cats. There is a dog fee of $75. Dogs should not be left in the cottages unattended, if you will be gone all day please leave them in a kennel. Acadia Woods Kennel is conveniently located on the Island in Town hill.
Also if you do walk the dogs on the property please pick up after them. This is very important as there are groups with families that visit, and children do play in the grounds.

Can we smoke on the property?

-There is no smoking inside any of the cottages. You can smoke outside, but please do not litter grounds with cigarette butts. This also helps to avoid fires, especially during dry spells. We reserve the right to ask you not to smoke if it is bothering other guests.

Is there internet access?

-There is free WIFI in the Hyewood house, Butterfly and Pavillion. There is also free access to WIFI in the Hospitality Suite, so you can bring your laptop and access it there. There is no password.

Are the cottages heated?

-All the cottages are heated with the exception of the Americana, Birdhouse and Bluehouse which have a wood burning stove. We do provide fresh seasoned hardwood.

Do the cottages have air conditioning?

-The cottages do not have air conditioning. However, most rooms have ceiling fans, and we do have window fans available.

Do the cottages have cable?

-No, with the exception of the Hyewood house which does have cable and internet. However, they do have televisions for DVD viewing only. You may borrow DVD's from our large collection at the Hospitality Suite.

If you do not want a television in the cottage, please tell us we can remove them if you wish.

How far are you from Acadia National Park?

-The Park is actually two thirds of the Island, so there are many entrances, not just one. However Anna's Quietside is less than 5 minutes from Acadia National Park. Visit our Acadia National Park page for more info!

How far are you from Bar Harbor?

-We are about a 25 minute drive from Bar Harbor.

How far are you from the ocean?

-The town of Southwest Harbor has three public town docks with parking and they are five minutes away by car.

What is the best way to get around on the Island?

-The Island Explorer is a fantastic way to see the Island. The clean propane-powered vehicles offer transportation to hiking trails, carriage roads, island beaches, and in-town shops and restaurants.
Here's a tip that locals know: the park loop road is mostly one way, and the right lane can be used at any point for parking.

Can we have mail delivered to Anna's?

-Unfortunately, no we do not have any mail delivery to the property. You may be able to have mail delivered to Care of First Express, 61 Cottage Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609. I recommend calling them at (207) 288-5885 before you schedule a delivery there to check if they will accept it.

What should we bring? What do you not provide?

-If you have chosen to opt out of linen and towels then you will need to bring those. Other than that you will need to bring your usual toiletries (shampoo, soap etc), trash bags, toilet paper, beach towels, high efficiency HE detergent, dish soap and dish towels.

Do you provide beach towels?

-No.

Do you provide irons and hairdryers?

-We have some but they are not in the cottages, please request them if you need them.

Are there laundry facilities on site?

-Yes there are. If we are not using the washer/dryer, then it is available for guests. You will need to bring high efficiency HE detergent to use, our washer does not like normal detergent. We ask for $3.00 to wash, and $3.00 to dry. If ours is not available there is a laundromat at the end of Forest Ave called Village Wash Tub.

Are there grocery shops close by?

-The Food Mart is closest and is located on Route 102.

-Sawyers is in town and stocks a small but delicious selection of fine foods and freshly prepared soup etc.

-Hannafords Supermarket has the largest selection and is located off Route 3 in Bar Harbor on Cottage street.

-Hannafords and Shaws in located in Ellsworth and would be a great economical place to pick up the bulk of your needs before getting onto the Island.
