What a great family trip for me, my husband and our 3 month old. Sand Beach was the toddlers favorite. Kayaking on Echo Lake is a must! For anyone staying here with kids on a rainy day the Children's Museum in Bangor is great! Loved eating at Top of the Hill restaurant! And Grumpy's for breakfast. What a wonderful place!

300th trip to Maine was excellent, like always. And I'm 23. Precipice, whale watching, the Beehive trail, Sand Beach, and kayaking made Acadia number 1 Maine destination all suggested. Sweet trip.

We had a lovely time and only wish we could have stayed longer. The
house was very comfortable and we enjoyed savoring our delicious "huge"
lobsters on your deck soaking in the beautiful view.
Ceasar and Annette were very charming, warm and welcoming, making our Maine experiencea even more enjoyable and memorable one.
Thank you so much, we would love to come back some time soon, and perhaps stay a little longer next time.

We really love MDI and have stayed in lots of different
campgrounds and cottages around the island and the Hyewood House was
definitely one of the most comfortable and best locations. It's nice to
have bedrooms upstairs and downstairs because our two year old is quite
vocal in the EARLY morning. We saw deer in the yard in the mornings and
also enjoyed having an outdoor grill.
The kitchen is very well
stocked, eqiptment wise, and any other odds and ends we needed we found
at the Hospitality Suite, along with some fresh herbs.
Somethings we like do do on MDI are:
-Hiking Beech Mountain, Flying Mountain and Cadillac
-Canoeing at Great Long Pond out to the little island.
-Swimming at Echo Lake
-Walking along the shore Path in Bar Harbor
The Farmers Market (Saturday in Southwest Harbor, Sunday in Bar Harbor and Thursday in Northeast Harbor)
-Walking the Carriage Trails
-Gardens and Thuya House
-Coffee and bread at Little Notch
Thanks!

House was great for large families (9)
Enjoyed hiking and sightseeing.Loved whale watching, a must. Kisma Preserve was great, lots of cool animals to see.
The
table with the lazy susan was great for games and meals. Thanks for
allowing a tent in the backyard, the kids loved camping out. We saw deer
in the backyard twice. The weather was good for most of the trip. Echo
Lake beach was fun. Cadillac Mountain a MUST. Walk the bar to Bar
Island. Bar Harbor great shopping and sights.
Great stay, hadn't been to Maine in over 30years and made a great reunion for use. Thanks a bunch.

Everything here at the house went great. Grilling outside was a
perfect way to end a day. And all 4 of our little boys has a blast being
able to chase each other around in the yard (helped to burn up some
stored energy from our trip.)
And after many failed attempts in Maine
and New Hampshire my wife got her first look at a moose. The first one
(19 total) we encountered was less than 20 feet away. We highly
recommend Vicky Nolan at the Moose Tours and Photography in Millinocket.
It was a tour you couldn't possibly forget.
I don't think our boys
will forget watching all of the boats being delivered either. It seemed
like everyday dozens of trucks were pulling boats in for the year and
the dock eqipment they use at Hinckley is quite impressive to see.
There's so much to see and to do on the quiet side and beyond why do we ever leave?

We had a great time at the Hyewood House -what a great location! What a beautiful house!
I
recommend anybody staying here to walk down to the docks and take the
ferry to Islesford (Little Cranberry Island.) Visit the museum, gift
shops, have lunch on the pier and explore the island.
We also had a great time biking into Acadiafrom here -only 1 mile to Seawall, 2-3 miles to hiking trails and Bass Harbor Light.
Great time kyaking on Great Long Pond too -love the quiet side! -Can't wait to visit next year!

Our first adventure to Maine -we came as guests and left as friends! Everyone was so gracious, the food was fabulous and you will find there's just not enough time for all the adventures.
The Hyewood House was so cozy and very convenient to all the islands. We are already looking forward to our return visit!
Happy Sailing!

This photo was taken in July of 2011 by one of our guests from Louisiana, Rachel H. It is the view of sunset at the Manset dock, just two blocks down across from the Hyewood House.
There is also a great restaurant you can walk to here on Shore Road called Scotty's Dockside Restaurant. Full bar, great eats, and an unpretentious atmosphere. Enjoy the ocean views, then walk home!
